Scratch Patisserie, Mullumbimby
Tucked away in the back of a small arcade off Stuart Street, in the heart of Mullumbimby is Scratch Patisserie. It’s a tiny shop-front space on one side of the arcade with a display filled with enticing treats … fruit loaves, rustic bread, almond croissants, and fruit danishes. Inside, there are friendly locals squeezing past each other to order a well-made Allpress coffee and be tempted by the pork and fennel sausage rolls or spinach and cheese rolls. If not something savoury, then a second cabinet holds vibrant individual berry tarts, profiteroles, mille feuille and lemon tarts.
Once you’ve collected your coffee and an oversupply of treats, you can sit at the back of the arcade on small stools or timber benches. In winter, the outdoor heater is on and you can enjoy the operations of the Scratch bakery on the other side of the arcade. Scratch Patisserie prides itself on its traditional recipes, making everything from scratch and using local, seasonal and organic ingredients as much as possible.
There is a feeling of contentment across the locals and those visitors who have been lucky enough to treat themselves to such well-made bakery delights and warm, rich coffee. Scratch Patisserie is open Tues-Friday 8am – 2pm and Saturdays until midday.
